We will soon have (as of July 13, 2010) a piano solo available for download of Peter, Paul, and Mary’s classic “Wedding Song.” For those of you who are too young to remember much about this folk trio from the 60′s and 70′s, they wrote and recorded ”Leavin’ On a Jet Plane.”
Other songs they wrote and/or recorded include Where Have All The Flowers Gone, This Land Is Your Land, Blowin’ In The Wind, 500 Miles, If I Had A Hammer, Stewball, Lemon Tree, and Puff The Magic Dragon.
This has been a classic wedding song since it was composed, and has no doubt been played at sung at countless thousands of weddings through the decades. Which brings to mind – I wonder which songs have been used the most often at weddings – I imagine it would be hard to document! But this one would have to be in the top 20 or 30 I would think, if we’re not counting some of the classics from the first half of the 20th century…
I imagine it has found greatest use as a wedding prelude piece, and then secondarily perhaps as a special number during the ceremony, as a solo standing on it’s own, or during the unity candle lighting or prayer.
