Panis Angelicus, until recently for me an undiscovered gem, heads a growing list of hymns with which I had been unfamiliar until putting together our Catholic Wedding Hymns album.
Holy Holy Holy and Joyful Joyful We Adore Thee are of course standard wedding hymns in many different branches of Christianity. My lovely bride of 28 years and I exited the church to the sound of the congregation singing the latter….
In researching wedding hymns, I have discovered it is not as acceptable to use pre-recorded music in some faith traditions (our specialty) – but that is slowly changing, and it has for some time been accepted if not preferred in much smaller churches without proper instruments or musicians.
My excitement in producing wedding hymn arrangements for our site is as much for the hymn aspect as the wedding. Hymns are compelling, awe-inspiring, rich with tradition and history, and for many worshipers, one of the most immediate ways to enter into the courtroom of the King of Heaven. I am thrilled to have a small platform from which to encourage us all to not lose this part of our spiritual heritage.
