Our top selling song, and most listened to, is Storybook Love, aka Theme from Princess Bride. Recently as I was listening to our recording I concluded that I could improve on this classic love song, so I recorded two new versions.
As with the old, there are two versions of the new. The wedding processional version is shorter (about 2 minutes long) and starts immediately with the familiar melody on nylon string guitar. The longer version from our Love Songs album is approximately the same length as the commercial release of the song on the soundtrack; my arrangement features somewhat fuller orchestration in places, while retaining the poignant simplicity of the song.
Storybook Love is one of those songs you needn’t over-produce. The magic is in the directness and beauty of the theme, and the sweet reminiscence of the relationship and dialogue between Buttercup and the ‘farm boy’, our hero Westley.
A solo piano rendition would be quite lovely, I do believe, so you can expect one in the future. If the trend continues, Storybook Love will still be our best seller and most requested play 5 years from now. As you wish….
I wonder if there is a Spanish language version of this classic love song, which I’ve also used as a lullaby….I’m working with a friend from Argentina on a spanish language lullaby website, and it would be fun to include Storybook Love as a Spanish language lullaby.
