Here are some great additional choices for Wedding Prelude Music – a few are repeats from our Processionals album, but there are about 15 new songs to choose from for your wedding prelude.

Three songs were chosen for the wedding (and a certain unduly casual pre-wedding event):

Jesu, Joy Of Man’s Desiring was playing in the background (small pipe organ) during a pre-wedding prelude scene.

John Stanley’s Trumpet Voluntary was heard briefly a bit later… but the real musical highlight/lowlight of the episode was the humorously casual Martha Levinson (Shirley McClain) led rendition of  “Let Me Call You Sweetheart.”

The title is still a mystery, but it’s likely to be either “Rejoicing Together”, also the title of one of the upbeat Celtic numbers, or “Ceremony & Celebration”, emphasizing both the reflective nature of the songs chosen, and the decidedly celebrative nature of others.

Daniel Howell from Gaither Studios began the mixing process; I’m taking his excellent foundation and tweaking to my hearts content. This was my first experience working with Daniel, and I was quite pleased with his ability to create 3 dimensions in the sonic spectrum with various reverbs and effects.

One enjoyable side note on the album credits – both my sons were involved in the percussion overdubs. Jesse added a cadence-like snare drum part to Simple Gifts (the wedding dance version), and Luke played shaker, triangle, tambourine, lap-slapping, and whatever else was at hand that made interesting percussive noises. I played a few parts as well, but as the producer that’s usually assumed – if it needs something added, and no one else is available, you play it yourself and then use the available technology to make yourself sound better than you really are!

So in a couple days I’ll be done micro-managing the mixes, and deliver it to be mastered. We should have product before Christmas, and hopefully by mid-December.

Bride’s Guide To Wedding Music (Popular & Classical) – a “Best Of” type album with lots of music, featuring (to state the obvious) the best of both our classical and pop wedding music choices. It’s currently being offered on our Wedding Music Samples page.

Bride’s Guide to Classical Wedding Music  This album includes 28 top classical wedding music choices. The number of songs offered may change – we haven’t figured out yet if you (that’s the plural you – visitors to our site) tend to like albums with a lot of songs, since we can offer these for less per song, or if you’re more comfortable with a more manageable number of tunes (say 15-22). The price and number of songs offered may change a couple times as we try to determine what you’re thinking.

Bride’s Guide to Popular Wedding Songs- Not as many songs grace this collection right now – 21 as of the writing of this article. Again, the number of songs will most likely change, along with the price. This features some all time favorite love songs – Can’t Help Falling In Love With You, You & Me (originally Lifehouse), Iris, Happy together, Bless The Broken Road, Storybook Love, Only Hope, From This Moment, I Will Be Here, and more.

I hope to add a piano wedding songs album in the future. There are already quite a few songs that are piano solos, or piano with orchestral accompaniment; I’ll need to gather these tunes in one place and see what seems to be lacking to make a nice piano project. The much tougher issue – will we provide sheet music for such an album. That, for me, is a more difficult task than creating the solos in the first place – it requires hard work, especially since music notation software is not a very comfortable place for me to venture…. yet.

Who could possibly decide what style the top wedding songs would be, let alone which make the list? Here are some of our top song choices.

• Joyful Joyful We Adore Thee (Ode To Joy) – Finale from Beethoven’s 9th Symphony
• Pachelbel’s Canon in D Major – arguably one of the top 3 favorites songs of all time and immensely popular over the last few decades
• Wedding March Recessional (Mendelssohn) – Most famous of all wedding recessional songs
• Trumpet Voluntary in D (The King of Denmark’s March) – Jeremiah Clarke
• Ave Maria – with multiple versions both lyrically and musically, this might be the most well known religious song of all time
• Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring by J.S. Bach. Some are familiar with this as an instrumental, but originally a lovely choral number.
• Vivaldi – Spring from the 4 Seasons a couple of the movements are heard quite often at weddings.
• Can’t Help Falling In Love With You - transcendent love song recorded by Elvis & many others
• At Last ~ Etta James    This one has been played at a plethora of weddings and receptions, and rightfully so. Deeply soulful.
• Unchained Melody ~ The Righteous Brothers recorded this one, as did Elvis and a few hundred other artists.
• From this Moment  as recorded by Shania Twain.  This and the following tune are two of the most popular from the last decade.
• Bless The Broken Road (originally by Rascal Flatts)
• Wedding March Remix! – The traditional Mendelssohn wedding recessional in a happy pop style
• You & Me Piano Solo (originally Lifehouse) – intimate song for prelude or quiet processional.
• Storybook Love – Theme from Princess Bride gets our vote as top quirky love song from the cult classic movie.

In the process of researching for this post, we looked at many different lists of the top wedding songs. I liked one title that said not “the greatest” but “of the greatest” at least acknowledging that their list might possibly not be THE TRUTH.

Hopefully, this is all the music you’ll need to cho0ose from to compile your wedding playlist, or alternately for listening through the songs with your bride/groom-to-be to finalize the song sequence, decide how many classical and popular selections you want to include, create your short list for bridal processional and recessional song possibilities, and so forth.

Our Wedding Music Samples album functions in much the same way, except that it provides just a quick snapshot of each song – about 15 seconds long, and if you prefer to hear the entire song to better plan for timing, and to get a more complete feel for how the music will flow, the Bride’s Guide might be more suited to your needs.

We would love to hear from you regarding which wedding songs/love songs you wish we carried in sheet music form, or if you would like to have solo instrument versions of our songs. I’ll be continuing to put pencil to paper, figuratively speaking, to add to our growing list of available wedding songs.

If by chance you’re reading this post and are a piano teacher, I would love to know if you think you would be able to use a book of easy piano wedding arrangements for your students (or yourself, if the shoe fits). It would most likely be a shorter book – perhaps 5 – 8 songs. Alternately, I’ll just make them available as single songs, but I know that can get expensive for piano students to continually be buying single songs, and I would price the book very competitively.

1. Bridal Chorus (Wedding March, Here Comes The Bride) – For the last 100 years, this has been the most popular wedding processional. It’s still a favorite of many, and brings to mind what our moms, aunts, and grandmothers probably walked down the aisle to. Arrangements and recordings of this top wedding processional: Pipe Organ, Gentle Piano, Trumpet & Orchestra (short arr), Violin & Orchestra, String Quartet, Traditional Piano, 
2. Pachelbel’s Canon in D – This Pachelbel classic has been immensely popular for the last few decades, accompanying thousands of brides and bridesmaids down the aisle. Virtually unknown for centuries, it was rediscovered in the 20th century.
3. Jesu, Joy Of Man’s Desiring is one of Bach’s many compositions that are some of our favorite traditional wedding songs. Jesu may be most often heard as bridesmaids processional or wedding prelude; not as often for the bride.
4. Arrival Of The Queen Of  Sheba (Handel) has been both a popular wedding processional and recessional.
5. Joyful Joyful We Adore Thee (Ode To Joy Beethoven) – Triumphant, well known song from Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, this makes a wonderful wedding processional or recessional song.
6. Air from Water Music, another Handel creation, is a nice, somewhat stately piece, without being too ponderous. Perfect for those who enjoy classical wedding music.
7. Spring from Four Seasons (Vivaldi) evokes images of early morning beauty and exultant birds, and is heard especially at spring and summer weddings.
8. I Was Glad WhenThey Said Unto Me is not really a top 10 candidate, but is a sentimental favorite, since it was Kate Middleton’s wedding processional when she wed Prince William on April 29, 2011.#9 – 10 are to be added soon….Find short excerpts from the Top 10 Wedding Processionals and many more on our Wedding Music Samples album.

This transpired in the Dever, Colorado area, where the man responsible for the dog attack is on the run from police. Meanwhile, the dog, thought to be a pit bull, is being held  at the Denver Animal Shelter.  Joel Neveraz, who has a history of mental illness, and has spent time in a mental hospital, is accused of attacking the new bride with brass knuckles after sicking his dog on her.

It’s unclear whether he is headed for Boston or Mexico, but he should be considered dangerous, especially in light of a threatening text he sent to his friends. Anyone with information on his whereabouts should contact the appropriate authorities.

You’re unlikely to find any other recorded version fit for your wedding recessional, as the familiar “Joyful Joyful, We Adore Thee” refrain is nestled in the much longer and ambitious 9th symphony in practically every other symphonic rendering of this Beethoven classic. On a personal note, the author of this blog post and his bride walked out of their wedding to this song nearly 34 years ago. At the conclusion of our ceremony, we turned, faced the congregation, and sang the first verse together before exiting…the congregants continued singing the 2nd and 3rd verses.
