Prince Albert of Monaco & Charlene Wittstock, former Olympic swimmer from South Africa, were wed in a religious ceremony teeming with famous individuals… in attendance were French president Nicholas Sarkozy, Karolina Kurkova, supermodel Naomi Campbell, former secret agent Roger Moore, and Karl Lagerfeld, famed designer; Charlene’s wedding dress designer, Giorgio Armani, also attended.
The couple were officially married July 1st in a civil ceremony; the July 2nd affair was the follow-up, the so-called religious ceremony.
Pumela Matshikiza “entertained” during the wedding, singing the Click Song, a traditional South African number, to the delight of the attendees. This was quite a fitting choice, considering Ms. Wittstock’s South African roots. Also contributing their talents during the ceremony were romantic Italian crooner Andrea Bocelli and Renée Fleming, American soprano known for singing opera and lieder.
Though you may not be familiar with Renée Fleming, it’s likely you’ve heard her sing, though you weren’t aware of it. She was tabbed to sing on several of the Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King soundtrack selections. Songs included “Twilight and Shadow”, “The Grace Of Undómiel”, “Mount Doom” and “The Return of the King” and “The End of All Things”, “The Eagles” and “The Fellowship Reunited.”
Pre-wedding festivities included a concert by The Eagles. Those with a sense of recent history might remember the wedding of the Prince’s mother, Grace Kelly, a star of the Hollywood Screen…
Following the wedding, a concert and light and sound show ensued, featuring Jean-Michel Jarre, composer and musician.
