Meditation from Thais, a masterpiece composed by Massanet, is simply rapturous in it’s beauty. This is clearly one of those pieces Mary would say is “so beautiful it hurts.” While not a bridal processional, this would be a beautiful prelude piece just before the bridesmaids walk, or perhaps even as the music they walk to. Our violinist, Samuel Lawton, did a number of takes of this song a few days ago, but felt like he wanted to return to the studio for some more attempts. I combined some of the takes he did – and I’m pleased with the results, though I completely understand the artistic bent toward perfecting and polishing works of art. If time allowed, they would all be replayed and edited and massaged until I was happier with them – the issue being, of course, that most of what I would change would never be noticed by anyone else!
Massanet was a prolific French composer; this piece is from an opera of the same name (Meditation from Thais), which he finished in 1894.
