How many love songs can you think of that were written at a soccer game? Well, now you know of one. Specifically, it was composed at a soccer match in Italy.
We have a beautiful piano solo of From This Moment on our Love Songs prelude album. This is about as perfect a song for a wedding as you can imagine – it was obviously written with that purpose in mind – to be used in wedding ceremonies, or simply to remind the listeners about the beauty of two people committing their lives to each other. Originally recorded by Shania Twain, she co-wrote it with her long time producer Mutt Lange. It was one of her most successful singles, reaching #1 on the AC charts. It was also a #1 AC song in Canada, and on the Billboard Hot 100 reached #4. That it would chart so high in Canada only makes sense, as Twain is a Canadian country singer.
The song was originally released on “Come On Over”, Shania’s multi-platinum 1997 album. Brian White was singing some lead on that first version; in some subsequent versions his vocals have been replaced with Shania’s, but he still is singing back-up.
As a producer, I find it interesting that there is a “single mix” of the song featuring a one-take version from Shania. Let me say that I am suspicious of anything recorded “live” or in one take – there is so much that is done to voices ( and recordings in general) with current recording technology that it’s rare to hear un-doctored versions and recordings of well known artists. Of course it was only purported to be done in one take, nothing being claimed about it not being “tuned”, as is almost every pop and country song you hear today on the radio! Not that I’m a nose-in-the-air purist – but I do love to hear natural sounding voices that don’t sound like they’ve had the life taken out of them in order to be perfectly in tune – but I digress! That’s another post, perhaps even on another website!
