I had forgotten about this gorgeous recording of I Can’t Help Falling In Love from our Classic Love Songs album until I listened to it just now! Thomas Watkins, an Indianapolis area violinist and charter member of the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, gave a stirring and heartfelt rendition of one of his favorite love songs some time back, but I had forgotten how magical it is.
He was at ZooWest Studio to record some music for a Broadway style musical, and while here I coaxed him into playing a solo over a romantic piano and orchestra track of this touching classic. Thomas is a great improvisational fiddler, and that’s the reason he was hired for the original session… but if you listen to this track, I think you’ll agree with my conclusion – this song could not have been played more tenderly and beautifully.
Samuel Lawton (Meditation From Thais, The Swan, The Prayer & others) and Kara Day Spurlock (Panis Angelicus, Bridal Chorus, and more) have also contributed violin solos to the Wedding Music Project – this is one of only 2 or 3 songs that Thomas has done for us. On the lighter side, he did a smashing job on the Beatle’s tune I Wanna Hold Your Hand, one of our Fun Wedding Songs, and a great wedding recessional.
There is more solo violin sprinkled throughout our repertoire – Ave Maria for example…
