A few years ago, in the deep, hazy, foggy past, that is to say about 1998, I recorded a solo album of sorts, which involved various family members occasionally singing solos and harmonies; one song was a duet featuring my daughters Elizabeth and Emily, which became many people’s favorite song on the album. That song and the album share the title “Rest.”
Together We Can, co-written with Tony Bolton, a musician from south of us somewhere (Texas?) featured members of the youth group from Harbour Shores Church where we attended at the time. Crowding into my studio that day were Jennifer Kelton, Amanda King, Brad Linerode, Elizabeth Millikan, Emily Millikan, Betsy Moore, Mary Myers, Rosalynn Prough, Rachel Thompson, Sara Thompson, and Angela Yeary.
Tony and I wrote the song when we were on a mission trip together in Mexico as youth group leaders, inspired by the circumstances of the mission trip and spending time in the poor areas of Matamoros, Mexico.
You may ask, what is the connection between my solo album and our wedding music site? I wrote and recorded a love song for my wife Mary, entitled “I Would Choose You” that is on the album. It will be offered on our site as well; I’m not sure if we will at some point carry my solo CD (probably not) or just sell or give away that song.
I had thought of it as a bonus track on the Love Songs album – some of you might be curious about it, but it is unlikely to be as popular as say Unchained Melody, I Can’t Help Falling In Love or From This Moment! And I’m not crushed…we would most likely make it the last song, with a little space between it and the previous song, almost but not quite like a hidden track.
Here’s another post about my solo album “Rest” and the (now) 20-30 somethings from Harbour Shores Church Youth Group that sang on “Together We Can.”
