How many songs have been written in the history of humankind? Look for the answer at the end of this post. (I can tell you there are more wedding songs we don’t carry than wedding songs we DO carry out of the total number).
Out of the incredible cornucopia of songs written over the centuries, our mission here at the Wedding Music Project is to pick not just the most popular but also some creative, interesting, and innovative ones as well. But how to decide? If we asked you to share some creative ideas for wedding processionals, recessionals, preludes and postludes, chances are you would list at least a couple songs most people wouldn’t have thought of or wouldn’t choose.
So how do we decide what new and interesting songs to add? Which popular songs deserve to be offered on a wedding music website that can’t offer every possible wedding song anyone could want, since that would be probably more than a million.
Our song selection includes many of the timeless standards from the present and past, both classic and love songs. Check out our Wedding Music Samples album, and notice we also feature some great upbeat choices – a seriously feel-good version of Happy Together, I Wanna Hold Your Hand, All You Need Is Love, and more. They’re great for pre- or post-wedding music… or perhaps you’ll use one of them as a creative Recessional.
We have great Wedding Hymn choices – including the timeless Be Thou My Vision, All Creatures Of Our God And King, Joyful Joyful We Adore Thee (from Beethoven’s 9th Sypmphony), the lesser known but poignant Irish/celtic version of The King Of Love My Shepherd Is, The Lord’s Prayer, Ave Maria, Gentle Shepherd, and many more.
I haven’t the faintest idea how many songs have been written in the history of mankind. In my defense, I didn’t say you would FIND the answer, I merely said to LOOK for the answer here. For the record, I am guessing the answer to be between 100 million and 20 billion. I’m pretty sure that’s one bit of trivia you can’t find the answer to on the internet, but if you do – please do tell.
Oh, and if you have a wedding song idea that is rather unusual, post a reply if you don’t mind. We would love to hear your creative ideas.
