We have wedding recessionals for immediate download here at our wedding music site. Soon, we’ll have more options. I think we need a couple funky recessionals… at the moment, we have the traditional recessional that we all know, as well as Joyful Joyful We Adore Thee, a piano solo of Happy Together, and Storybook Love, the Theme from Princess Bride.
When did couples start to walk out to music other than the traditional music that we all can hear in our head right now? And most likely we hear it being played by a pipe organ or piano…that’s another question I can ask Mary’s mom when I see her next, or talk to her on the phone. She’s 90, so she’s been to a few weddings in her day. Perhaps it’s because I’m a guy that I can’t remember when that happened – could be that any respectable middle-aged lady (you know who you are) can answer this as well.
We walked out to “Joyful Joyful We Adore Thee” after singing a verse or two of it while facing the congregation. That was the late 70′s… and it wasn’t unheard of to be creative with your wedding recessional then, though not a free-for-all like it is today. I wasn’t aware at the time of something funky or dance being used for the grand exit. I guess we were a little different in other ways – our wedding cake was a carrot cake, which was not the norm back then.
At any rate, whether you decide on a traditional recessional or something more creative, or fun, or unusual, we hope we can help with the choices we offer you.
