Wedding Music from the Motown Family?

Just watched an infomercial for Motown music, and wondered how many people in the last 30 or 40 years have used Motown music in their ceremonies. Naturally a lot of us have danced to some of those tunes, but how many actually used Motown tunes in their weddings?

Some of the coolest Motown songs wouldn’t be exactly appropriate – “Heard It Through The Grapevine” for instance ( I liked Marvin Gaye’s version best), or “Where Did Our Love Go” by the Supremes, or “Stop In The Name Of Love.” Admin note: today (August 7, 2011) I was hanging with my 20-something son Jesse and I found out he didn’t know “Heard It Through The Grapevine.” Obviously, I am a bad father.

But classics like “My Guy” or “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” would have made spectacular, if not traditional wedding processionals!

We don’t feature any Motown tunes on our Wedding Music Samples album, but if I had had Motown tunes in my wedding, I think I’d have wanted the original artists to sing them. After all, I got married in 1974, prime time for a lot of those artists. The fee might have been a bit stiff I suppose.

On the complete opposite end of the spectrum, we did have wedding hymns in our ceremony…so much for the Motown wedding I could have had!

Oh, and whereas before we were using a 3rd party website for our music (actually we still are), you can now listen to our popular Wedding Music Samples album directly on our site.
