Thomas Watkins, violinist and charter member of the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, made the trek to ZooWest yesterday evening to play a session for one of my current clients who he recently met at a public performance of the ICO.
After finishing our session, we had about an hour to add some violin solos to our wedding music repertoire. Thomas Watkins is now the third solo violinist to be featured on our site, following Samuel Lawton and Kara Day Spurlock.
The hour was late, so I’ll be sorting and editing my way through various performances today to see exactly what we have on three pieces: “I Wanna Hold Your Hand”, a sort of “muzak on steroids” version for a creative and upbeat processional, “I Can’t Help Falling In Love With You”, and “From This Moment.”
All three pieces will be added almost immediately to our WEDDING MUSIC SAMPLES ALBUM. Or listen to it here: Wedding Music Samples album. Listen to the first 5 seconds of “I Wanna Hold Your Hand” and try to identify which 2 wedding processionals or recessionals are hinted at in those brief couple of measures before the band is in full swing on this Beatles classic from the 60′s.
The primary reason Thomas was hired was to play ‘fiddle’ last night was for a broadway version of an original song entitled “Irish Tea.” Wow. Fiddle playing is a serious sweet spot for Mr. Watkins! What a great talent, and a great addition to the song. Thanks, Thomas.
You can enjoy the superb playing of Thomas Watkins, Samuel Lawton, and Kara Day Spurlock on a variety of our wedding songs. Samuel is featured on many of our wedding hymns; Kara appears both in a small string ensemble, as well as solo appearances on Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring, Panis Angelicus, and Spring from the 4 Seasons by Vivaldi, and of course Thomas Watkins on the songs listed above.
