As we were in the earliest stages of creating our website, we discussed a wide variety of issues and had a couple brainstorming sessions, trying to find a domain name that would explain who we were and that would also be successful at attracting you ( and others like you! ) to our site. A friend who has some experience in these things did a bit of searching for unused domain names, and suggested Wedding Songs Music. While that’s a name that search engines might favor, our fear was that too many people would see the domain name and assume that we were basically a spam site, like so many that we all run across.
So after lengthy discussion and exploration, we decided that even though we might get more random traffic with “Wedding Songs Music”, if we wanted to be taken seriously, we should choose another name. Brian, one of the partners, liked the Wedding Music Project from early on. Jesse and I were unsure for quite some time; what would the ‘project’ part of the name indicate to site visitors? What would we have to offer that would qualify us as a project of sorts? In the end, we decided that “Wedding Music Project” was the best choice. We wanted to be service oriented, to go the extra mile for our customers, to never misuse information they might give us, and to offer genuine help as they searched the web for the music for their special day. Perhaps we would specialize in wedding processionals of various lengths, something I had not been able to find in my online searches, and for which I thought there must be some demand. Or it could be we would discover through trial and error that there were other needs that were not being met properly, other wedding music issues that made wedding planning more difficult than in needed to be. We have plans for documents and articles to shed light on these important matters. To that end, Wedding Music Project seemed to make sense – we were genuinely going to make an effort to make the whole process of planning and searching for wedding music less of a hassle.
Will we be successful? Only time will tell, as we are now in the infancy of our site’s life. But it makes sense that if we are able to actually help people, perhaps we will be able to succeed on the business end as well, and if so, continue to develop our site, and add new music. I have rather lofty aspirations and plans for a variety of music – and if it goes like I hope it will, we’ll have a lot more to choose from within a few months.
